Text Box: The BEST way to include page numbers is to simply add JUST the number in parentheses to the end of your sentence, before the period. (Notice it does not have ÒpageÓ within the parentheses!)

 	Example with a direct quote:
→ Melinda describes high school as Òone long hazing activityÓ (19).
→ Andy Evans tries to intimidate Melinda by whispering ÒfreshmeatÓ into
her ear during detention which makes her feel scared and
                                 uncomfortable (86).

Example when referencing a specific event:
→ We notice Melinda starts high school without any friends when she sits
alone on the school bus the first day (5).
→ On the first day of school, Melinda compares herself to a zebra on the
run when she is trying to find her seat in the auditorium (7).
Q: Dear Awesome English Teacher,
How do I include page numbers in my writing?!

A:

Text Box: By including page numbers in parentheses, we can use our sentences to actually convey new ideas instead of wasting entire sentences with boring non-information.

Examles of what NOT to do when including page numbers:
→ One is on page 4 when Melinda has no one to sit with.
→ Melinda gets hit with potatoes on page 8.
→ One of her thoughts that stands out to me is on page 6.

Instead of actually saying something in the above sentence, theyÕre boring-space-filler sentences. These sentences COULD include more information, more ÒredÓ details to create complex, interesting sentences.

 	Example:
→ Melinda feels lonely and disconnected because she has no one to sit
                                 with at lunch (4).
→ When Melinda gets smashed with potatoes, she runs, embarrassed, into
the hallway, straight towards Mr. Neck (8).
→ The moment when Melinda started counting down to high school
graduation after one class period of her freshman year stood out to me
                                 becauseÉ.. (6).
