Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian should be finished by Mon, Sept. 14th Speak should be finished by Mon, Sept. 21st Assignments: As you read Speak, record 10-15 quotes that are memorable for any reason: funny, impactful, sad, scary, great writing, important, etc. Drawing/Writing of Conflicting Identities: 1. We brainstormed different "labels" for ourselves. 2. We searched for two that seemed to "conflict" based on reality or because of what others expect for those labels. (Example: People expect introverts to be quiet, shy, only have a few friends. People expect protestors to be loud, passionate, maybe angry. Yet, I identify as both.) 3. Then students were to draw and label a comic similar to the one Junior draws on pg. 57 in ATDPTI, with one half representing one conflicting label and the other side representing the other. 4. Lastly, students were to answer the 3 questions below in a paragraph+. Students will finish this in class on Mon, Sept. 14th. Remember your tree can be drawn, collaged, painted, sculpted, etc. & must be accompanied with 2-3 paragraphs that explain your artistic choices. You can also try googling different images of trees for inspiration! (Palm trees, pine trees, birch trees, oak trees, etc. all are very different... What season will it be for your tree? etc.)
