For the rest of the semester, students will be reading a non-fiction book and learning various other aspects of non-fiction (types, text features, bias, etc.) Book Options: Students have until Friday, December 4th to FINISH their book and complete their literature circle role. Handout describing these jobs can be found here.
On Friday, December 4th, students will meet with their group of 5-6 students to discuss the novel. Discussion should be focused on the novel and last 40 minutes. Afterwards, students will write a reflection.

Unit Overview: Mrs. Sorensen teaches a week long unit in the career center. (Details below.) Then students will deliver a 2:30-3:30 minute speech next week using the Google Slides presentation as their visual aid. Google Slides Presentation: 100 formative points. Here is the rubric. Here is the rubric. 11/16-18: Students will deliver their speeches 11/12-13: Students created a Google Slides presentation to use as the visual aid for their speeches next week. 11/11: Students had class time to complete the white packet with information about their chosen job using a specific career program. Things like: employment outlook, wages, required education, relevant high school electives, job duties, etc. 11/10: Students began looking into the job they're interested in and collecting information. 11/9: Students took career profiler surveys and looked at recommended jobs Here are videos and other resources to help you prepare for your speech: "How to Give a Great Speech" Here are some example presentations: Health Educator: great use of pictures Clinical Psychologist: would make the font larger Surgeon: awesome conclusion slide Good examples: These intro slides utilize the picture's "dead space" and but words over it. The picture is little or off to the side or just looks awkward; it appears like the picture was thrown on the slide because it's a requirement instead of displaying it in a way that enhances the presentation. In the last example the words are over the picture, so it's hard to read... |
