Today we wrote an annotated bibliography entry together in class. The handout is at the bottom of this post. Remember each entry should contain 1) the MLA citation 2) a summary paragraph 3) an assess paragraph. Example we wrote together: White, Joseph. “Trademark Board Rules Against Redskins Name.” Newsela. Newsela, 20 June 2014. Web. 4 September 2015. Summarize: “Trademark Board Rules Against Redskins Name” explains that the federal trademark board has been trying to change the Redskins name. Over the past year, many including the United Church of Christ, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, and half of the U.S. Senate, have shown support for the name change. Synder, the team owner, has “vowed repeatedly never to change the name [and] declined to comment.” Even though the Redskins are trying to keep their name, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, “it is just a matter of time until he is forced to do the right thing.” Assess: This is a credible source because a reporter wrote it with the Associated Press, which is a national news source. Direct quotes are included from a multitude of people included the team owner, players, the team attorney, and important politicians such as Harry Reid and D.C. Mayor, Vincent Gray. The author mentioned old court cases spanning from 1967-today as well, which shows he researched the situation carefully.
